If only there was a Sat Nav for your business, a tool to help you find the best route to success.
In my opinion, the secret of making any business successful is finding the best way i.e. the continual improvement of activities undertaken by you and your staff.
Only by continual analysis of the way things are done and by continuous improvement of this, can you ever dream of achieving success in your business, unless you’re very lucky.
And the only way you can continually improve is to document what you are doing now and then review it regularly as and when things go wrong.
Most small businesses face the same problems:
1. Lack of Cash
2. Lack of Time
3. The owners feeling that they can’t trust anyone to be as effective as them
Lack of cash – Cash is vital because without it you can’t do much. We can help forecast it, try and ensure you know if you are likely to run out of it and ensure you know what action you can take so that you don’t run out it.
Lack of time – This can be a symptom of many problems. We help restore time by looking at the business and its owners with fresh eyes. Often the owners have managed to pick up a load of jobs that they shouldn’t really be doing. This can be for many reasons such as that these jobs needed to be done and weren’t being done or weren’t being done well enough.
Lack of trust – We find it’s not that owners don’t trust their staff but that they just can’t seem to get anyone to do things in the right way. Frustration can build – why don’t the staff seem to care or understand?
Numbers 2 and 3 are symptoms of the same problem; a lack of a continual improvement process and culture. By documenting the best way of doing things and then continually improving, this you can eliminate 2 and 3 from your life.
Here is a quick example regarding the opening post, believe it or not; I worked with a business recently where the owner spent an hour a day opening the post because of the reasons stated above. We developed a simple process to explain and train someone on where all the documents go and now he trusts his staff to do it and this has saved him valuable time.
We have a motto at Accsys Accountants, apparently first muttered by Henry Ford:
“If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.”
So if you recognize any of the above and your business has stalled for any reason then give us a call.
We don’t just do the accounts you know!
