On my way to the office this morning, I passed 3 petrol stations all with queues of traffic and I couldn’t help thinking back to the last fuel crisis – I think it was a tanker driver strike – and the stress of trying to run a business when you don’t know how you are going to get around.
This fuel shortage is the latest blow to an economy that is struggling post pandemic and post Brexit. Material shortages, staff shortages, gas prices increase. Not wanting to get political, but the government’s plans (if there were any) did not take into account this scenario, did they?
The next few months are going to be tough; inflation is on the rise and interest rates will inevitably follow. The only businesses that survive this type of rough economic conditions are the lean efficient ones.
What a depressing start to a blog! But, as the song goes, when the going gets tough the tough gets going. It would be easy to throw in the towel and not get out of bed in the morning, but business owners aren’t built that way.
